Originally home to the Native Americans, the area was largely agricultural. Zebulon is a town established from the Industrial Revolution when the most reliable form of transportation was the train. Realizing the economic potential of the railway, a Raleigh developer teamed up with a local to charter the Zebulon Company in 1906, named by Zebulon Baird Vance, a popular Civil War governor of North Carolina. During the 1920's, the town was a significant trade center with a downtown business district that was indicative of early twentieth century economic prosperity. Similarly, Knightdale grew from the railroad business moving timber and farm products to the market. After the coming of the railroad and the depot, life and commerce in this area began to move at a faster pace, allowing for suburban living.
The culture in nearby Raleigh offers fine museums, theaters, nationally recognized symphony orchestra, restaurants galore, shopping, an ice hockey team, a major modern dance festival, collegiate sports, a state zoo and outstanding healthcare facilities. With all of the security and charms of being in a small town, Knightdale and Zebulon have quick access to the downtown Raleigh area. Whether it's the recreational opportunities, the friendly people or beautiful family-oriented community, these communities provide a quality of life second to none.
